(1st/2nd Quarter 2002)
Vecellio & Grogan has been subcontracted by APAC to provide the earthmoving and pipe work on a new segment of SR-288 in Richmond, VA. The work adjoins V&Gs current prime contract there, pushing the total value of both Richmond projects to well over $50 million.
Elsewhere, V&G has completed its Corridor H projects in Elkins, WV except for some remaining bridge work.
In North Carolina, work continues ahead of schedule on US-221 in Linville, due for completion in October. US-421 in Wilkes County is now open to traffic, with crews finishing the punch list items.

SR-60 Paving Job Earns Award From NAPA
(1st/2nd Quarter 2002)
PAVEX Corporation, a Vecellio Group company, received a 2001 Quality In Construction Award from the National Asphalt Pavement Association for a $3 million milling, resurfacing and widening project on a heavily-traveled portion of SR-60 in Central Florida.
The project involved approximately seven miles of road work from CR-640 in Polk County eastward to the Osceola County line.
Although only a two-lane road in most places, SR-60 serves as a major trucking route, causing heavy wear. To prevent cracks in the lower asphalt layers from working their way up to the new top layer, an asphalt-rubber membrane interlayer (ARMI layer) was applied to the milled lanes prior to resurfacing.
In addition to the paving work, PAVEX widened the roadway in two places to accommodate mile-long passing lanes, one for eastbound traffic, the other for westbound.
The finished roadway achieved excellent rideability with no penalties, earning PAVEX its latest NAPA award for superior workmanship.
