User Fee Would Fund Six-Year Transportation Bill
(3rd Quarter 2010)
A Message From
Leo A. Vecellio, Jr.
Vecellio Group, Inc. President, Chairman
and CEO
Raising taxes during a slow economy may seem backwards, but when its a pennies-per-gallon user fee on gasoline to pay for a multi-year surface transportation bill, then it makes good sense.
Federal stimulus programs and funding extensions dont help the nations long-term infrastructure needs or the need for businesses and states to plan for more than just the short-term. Uncertainty holds the entire sector back and the workforce down, as businesses necessarily adjust to the foreseeable workload.
A paid-for, multi-year surface transportation bill would improve the countrys aging infrastructure and significantly boost employment, without adding to the deficit.
Its been 17 years since the gasoline user fee was last adjusted. Its time to get past the politics and back on the road to a fiscally sound, long-term transportation investment program.
Groups Safety Records Honored
(3rd Quarter 2010)
The Vecellio Groups emphasis on safety is reflected in the safety records of its companies and divisions, with most seeing hundreds of thousands of hours worked with no lost-time incidents.
At the head of the pack, this summer Sharpe Bros. celebrated four years with no lost-time incidents. Employees were treated to a meal and several door prizes, including four flat screen TV sets and a Lowes gift card. A Travelers representative presented Sharpe Bros. with a plaque commemorating the achievement.
Also this summer, Vecenergy and White Rock logged two-plus years, while Rangers South Division and Vecellio & Grogans shop team, Beckley Equipment Repair, posted one and a half years without incidents.
Safely is our most important job, said CEO Leo Vecellio, Jr. Lets all keep working at it!
