Better Education? Vorster Explains How At Virginia Techs 2010 Vecellio Lecture

Michael Vorster
The Vecellio Distinguished Lecture at Virginia Tech this year will focus on learner-centered teaching methods. Teaching and Learning: The Critical Balance in Effective Education will be presented by Michael C. Vorster, the David H. Burrows Professor Emeritus of Construction Engineering at the school.
The Vecellio Family Foundation and individual family members sponsor the annual lecture series through an endowment to the schools Vecellio Construction Engineering and Management Program, where Vorster taught since 1986.
Several family members are Virginia Tech alumni, including the late Leo Vecellio, Sr. (class of 1938), Leo Vecellio, Jr. (1968) and Michael Vecellio (2001). The endowment also supports scholarships, fellowships and a full professorship at the school.

Matt Farley Promoted to V.P. Structures

Matt Farley
Matthew A. Farley has been promoted to Vice President Structures at Vecellio & Grogan. His previous title was Structure Operations Engineer, where he led V&Gs bridge estimating team and assisted with field operations.
Matt started as a Laborer/Mechanics Helper in the Beckley, WV, shop 21 years ago. He moved to the survey team and rose to Party Chief, then worked as a Grading Foreman and Project Engineering before focusing on bridge work.

Eddie Allsopp Named White Rock Quarries V.P.

Eddie Allsopp
After 30 years in the mining and construction materials business as an industry associate of White Rock Quarries and the Vecellio Group, Eddie Allsopp has joined White Rock as a Vice President. He brings a wealth of experience and will share some of the executive workload of White Rock President Jim Hurley.
Allsopp is a former Chairman of the Florida Limerock and Aggregates Institute, and a former Board Member, Executive Committee Member, and Chairman of the Florida Concrete and Products Association.
